The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will head on the road to face the Clemson Tigers on Saturday in an ACC matchup between the top two teams in the conference. Clemson won 73-7 when these two played last year.
Georgia Tech is 1-1 after winning their last game 45-17 against the Kennesaw State Owls. Jordan Yates led the way for the offense, completing 17 of 23 passes for 254 yards and four touchdowns. Kyric McGowan hauled in six passes for 91 yards and two scores. The Yellow Jackets limited the Owls to 260 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers. Georgia Tech has averaged 214.5 yards per game on the ground this season. The freshman QB Yates has done a commendable job through two games, completing 70.7 percent of his passes with no interceptions. Georgia Tech’s defense has only allowed 280.5 yards per game and has been especially stingy against the pass.
Clemson was able to shake off their opening week loss with a 49-3 drubbing of South Carolina State in their second game. Their offense was able to put up 504 yards of total offense, 242 of those yards coming on the ground. They used eight different rushers and averaged 6.7 yards per carry. They did however cause three turnovers, with D. J. Uiagalelei throwing a pick in his second straight game. Their defense was great again in this one, holding the Bulldogs to 235 yards of total offense. They rank third in the nation with 6.5 points allowed per game to start the season.
Georgia Tech is 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games, 4-6 on the money line, and the over is 7-3.
Clemson is 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games, 8-2 on the money line, and the over is 6-4.
Georgia Tech has been efficient on offense to start the season, but they will be outmatched against this Clemson defense. In their only loss of the year, the Tigers limited Georgia to 10 points and 256 yards of total offense. The Yellow Jackets attack is not on the same level as Georgia. Clemson’s run game will also be good enough to hide the turnover problems at quarterback. Give me the Tigers to cover.
