The Colorado State Rams will travel to the Glass Bowl to take on the Toledo Rockets this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Colorado State Rams dropped to 0-2 on the season after being defeated by the Vanderbilt Commodores, 24-21, this past Saturday. Colorado State tied up the game with just 3:07 left in regulation after a 3-yard TD reception by Trey McBride, however, Vanderbilt was able to pick up the victory after a game-winning 48-yard FG by Joseph Bulovas with just :19 seconds left in the 4th quarter. Colorado State outgained Vanderbilt by a 445-342 margin while both the Rams & Commodores committed one turnover each. Leading the way for the Rams was TE Trey McBride who had 8 receptions for 114 yards & 1 TD.
On the season, Colorado State is averaging 22.0 ppg on 453.5 yards per game (288.0 passing yds/g; 165.5 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Colorado State has been led by TE Trey McBride who had 21 receptions for 230 yards & 1 TD on the season. QB Todd Centeio has completed 61.3% of his passes for 542 yards, 3 TD, & 1 INT. Defensively, Colorado State is allowing their opponents to average 33.0 ppg on 404.0 total yards per game (231.0 passing yds/g; 173.0 rushing yds/g).
The Toledo Rockets dropped to 1-1 on the season after being defeated by the 8th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 32-29, this past Saturday. Toledo looked poised for the upset after a 26-yard TD run by Dequan Finn gave the Rockets a 29-24 lead with just 1:35 left in regulation, however, Notre Dame was able to march right down the field aided by a few Toledo penalties and was able to win the game on an 18-yard TD reception by Michael Mayer with 1:09 left in the 4th quarter. Toledo was outgained by Notre Dame by a 449-353 margin, however, did win the turnover battle by a 3-1 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Rockets was WR David Maddox who had 9 receptions for 135 yards.
On the season, Toledo is averaging 39.0 ppg on 397.0 total yards per game (232.5 passing yds/g; 164.5 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Toledo has been led by WR Devin Maddox who has 11 receptions for 226 yards & 1 TD on the season. Carter Bradley has completed 64.1% of his passes for 396 yards & 1 TD. The Rams are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games as a road underdog and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Rockets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 September games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.
Colorado State followed up their season opening loss to the FCS South Dakota State Jackrabbits with another tough home loss against a Vanderbilt team that doesn’t look much better than the team that went 0-9 last season. Toledo has talent on both sides of the ball and between the fact that I think the Rockets shouldn’t have much trouble scoring against a Rams defense giving up more than 33.0 ppg and that Colorado State generally struggles on the road, I think the play here is to take Toledo to cover this large home spread. Good Luck!
