The Boston College Eagles and Temple Owls face off on Saturday in a Week 3 college football showdown at Lincoln Financial Field. These teams last faced off in 2018 and Boston College came away with the 45-35.
The Boston College Eagles have played well to start the season winning each of the first two games. Boston College opened up their season with a 51-0 victory over Colgate, and in the last game against UMass, they won 45-28. Even though they won the last game against UMass they did give up 21 points in the third quarter, and in this game, they can’t take their foot off the gas. One big problem heading into this game is that the Eagles have lost quarterback Phil Jurkovec for an extended period of time after having hand surgery. Boston College turned to Dennis Grosel in the last game and he completed 11 of his 14 passes for 199 yards and a touchdown. In his game, Boston College needs to have a strong game from Grosel, and the defense is also going to need to be good.
On the other side of this matchup is the Temple Owls who sit with a 1-1 record. Temple lost to Rutgers 61-14 before beating Akron 45-24 in the last game. Akron has been a terrible offensive team the last few years, so Temple can’t feel good about the fact that they gave up 24 points. Under center for Temple is Justin Lynch and in the last game, he completed 19 of his 23 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns. Temple is giving up 42.5 points per game, and if they don’t get control on their defense, the Owls are going to have some real issues coming away with the victory.
Boston College is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games. Temple is 0-4 against the spread in their last four home games. The over is 4-0 in Boston College’s last four games following a straight-up win. The over is 5-1 in Temple’s last six games against the ACC.
Boston College might be starting a backup quarterback, but a third-string quarterback could sling it all around on this Temple Owls defense. I expect Boston College to still score at least 42 points, and that will be enough to cover the spread. Back Boston College to cover the spread.
