The Ball State Cardinals will travel to Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium to take on the Wyoming Cowboys this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Ball State Cardinals dropped to 1-1 on the season after being defeated by the 11th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions, 44-13, this past Saturday. Ball State had no answers on the defensive end against Penn State and could not fight back after going into halftime trailing by a 24-6 margin. Ball State was outgained by Penn State by a 493-295 margin while also losing the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin. Leading the way for the Cardinals was QB Drew Plitt who completed 25 of 39 passes for 176 yards & 2 INT.

The leading receivers for Plitt and the Cardinals have been Justin Hall (14 rec, 172 yards, 2 TD), Jayshon Jackson (7 rec, 65 yards), Yo’Heinz Tyler (6 rec, 53 yards), & Dylan Koch (2 rec, 31 yards). Defensively, Ball State is allowing their opponents to average 32.5 ppg on 465.0 total yards per game (310.0 passing yds/g; 155.0 rushing yds/g).
The Wyoming Cowboys improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating the Northern Illinois Huskies, 50-43, this past Saturday. Wyoming allowed Northern Illinois to fight back from a 42-22 deficit to take a 43-42 lead with just 4:56 left in regulation, however, the Cowboys were able to get the victory after a game-winning 9-yard TD run by Sean Chambers gave Wyoming the lead for good with 1:35 left in regulation. Wyoming was outgained by Northern Illinois by a 477-395 margin, however, won the turnover battle by a 3-1 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Cowboys was QB Sean Chambers who completed 13 of 23 passes for 204 yards & 2 TD’s while also rushing for a TD.
On the season, Wyoming is averaging 34.5 ppg on 371.0 total yards per game (200.0 passing yds/g; 171.0 rushing yds/g). The Cardinals are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games as an underdog and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Cowboys are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games, however, are just 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a favorite.
Ball State didn’t put up much of a fight against Penn State, however, the Cardinals are still the reigning MAC Championships and have most of the talent back that ended up beating a very good San Jose State team in the Arizona Bowl last season. Wyoming was able to escape with a victory against Northern Illinois behind a strong offensive performance, however, it was a bit concerning to see their defense allowed the Huskies fight back into the game and I also wasn’t that encouraged by the Cowboys 19-16 victory to start the season against the FCS Montana State Bobcats. I think Ball State is the better team here and although winning in Wyoming is always tough, I think at worst the Cardinals keep this a close game and cover with the points. Good Luck!
