The Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida Gators face off on Saturday in a Week 3 college football showdown at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. In 2020 these two teams were involved in a shootout with Alabama winning 52-46.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are the number one team in the country, and they have looked impressive to start the season. In the first game of the season, Alabama beat Miami 44-13 and followed that up with a 48-14 victory over Mercer. Bryce Young is only 20 years old, but he has looked impressive under center for Alabama including the last game where he completed 19 of his 27 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns. This is the first road start ever for Young, and it will be interesting to see how he performs, especially if he struggles early in this game. On defense, Alabama is giving up 13.5 points per game which ranks 29th in college football.
On the other side of this matchup is the Florida Gators who have won their first two games of the season, but they really haven’t been tested. In the last game against South Florida, they were leading 35-3 at halftime and never looked back as they won 42-20. Emory Jones threw for 151 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. There were some thoughts that Florida might turn to Anthony Richardson to start, but the team has decided to stick with Jones. If Jones does struggle early in this game, the leash could be short. On defense, Florida is giving up 17 points per game which is 40th in college football.
Alabama is 7-1 against the spread in their last eight conference games. Florida is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games as an underdog. Alabama is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games against Florida. The over is 5-0 in the last five meetings played between the two teams.
I don’t trust Emory Jones, and Alabama is going to create a few turnovers early off on him. The Gators are going to struggle to move the ball, which will be the difference in this game. Look for Alabama to cruise to a victory, and cover the spread.
