The Texas State Bobcats and FIU Panthers face off on Saturday in a Week 2 college football showdown at FIU Stadium. This is the first meeting ever between the two teams.
The Texas State Bobcats opened up their season against the Baylor Bears, and they were competitive, but they lost 29-20. Texas State was outscored 10-3 in the 3rd quarter and that was the difference. One other issue for Texas State in the first game was with the turnovers. Quarterback Brady McBride completed 20 of his 40 passes for 156 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. Running back Jahmyl Jeter also had eight carries for 45 yards and a touchdown. Texas State could have pulled the upset in the first game if it wasn’t for the turnovers. If Texas State limits the turnovers in this game they should be in good shape.
On the other side of this matchup is the FIU Panthers who opened up their season against the LIU Post Panthers and it was a dominant victory for the Panthers. FIU scored 21 points in the first quarter and they never looked back as they cruised to the victory. Under center for FIU is Max Bortenschlager and he threw for 266 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. D’Vonte Price also had a big game on the ground rushing five times for 165 yards and three touchdowns. The defense had some issues in the second quarter, but outside of that they really locked down.
Texas State is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall. FIU is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games overall. The over is 5-2 in Texas State’s last seven games overall. The over is 8-1 in FIU’s last nine games overall. The over is 4-1 in FIU’s last five home games.
Even though Texas State lost in the first game against Baylor, they really impressed me with their play. I expect McBride is going to clean up his turnovers, and he will lead the Bobcats offense to a lot of success. Back Texas State to cover this spread with ease.
