Texas faces Arkansas on Saturday, September 11th at Razorback Stadium for a Week 2 college football matchup.
Texas defeated a Top-25 team at home in its first game of the season, taking down #23 ranked Louisiana by the final score of 38-18. Texas was able to cover the 9-point spread at home as the Longhorns showed a lot of promise on both sides of the ball. On offense, Texas earned 435 total yards (265 through the air and 170 on the ground) and Texas did not turn the ball over in the win. Texas' defense forced one turnover and only allowed 358 yards, including only 76 yards on the ground. Texas will now go on the road to face its first Power 5 team of the season in the SEC's Arkansas. Of course, Texas is set to join the SEC on July 1st of 2025 so it will see a lot more of Arkansas in the near future.
Arkansas was able to defeat Rice in its first game of the season by the final score of 38-17. Arkansas got off to a very slow start, as the Razorbacks trailed 17-7 early in the third quarter. Arkansas was able to figure things out in the second half of the contest, scoring four touchdowns and a field goal in the third and fourth quarter. Arkansas did not allow much on the ground, as Rice was only able to earn 81 rushing yards. Arkansas, on the other hand, ran for 245 yards and was led by RB Trelon Smith who had 102 rushing yards on 22 carries. KJ Jefferson added nine carries for 89 yards and two rushing touchdowns as well for the Razorbacks. Arkansas was able to cover the spread in its win despite the slow start.
Texas is a 7-point favorite and the total is set at 56. I think Texas is just the better team in this matchup. I am not a fan of laying points on the road in a Power 5 matchup, but I worry about Arkansas' secondary against Hudson Card and the Texas passing attack. I will take Texas here but I am certainly not rushing to the window for this one.
