The South Alabama Jaguars and Bowling Green Falcons face off on Saturday in a Week 2 college football showdown at Doyt Perry Stadium. These two teams last faced off in 2014 and Bowling Green came away with the 33-28 victory.
The South Alabama Jaguars faced off with Southern Miss in their first game and it was a pretty dominant victory. Southern Miss was up 7-0 at the end of the first half, but then South Alabama started to dominate and came away with the 31-7 victory. Under center for South Alabama is former South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley and he looked good in the first game throwing for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Jalen Tolbert had an impressive game catching five passes for 168 yards.
On the other side of this matchup is the Bowling Green Falcons who opened up their season against the Tennessee Volunteers and they were defeated 38-6. Even though the offense only scored six points, they did show some flashes on that side of the ball. Starting quarterback Matt McDonald completed 25 of his 38 passes for 187 yards. One issue with the offense was their lack of running game. The top back was Nick Mosley but he only finished with 26 yards. On defense, Bowling Green let two backs rush for at least 117 yards, and that part of the defense is going to need to be a whole lot better.
South Alabama is 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven games as a favorite. Bowling Green is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games against the Sun Belt. The under is 5-1 in South Alabama’s last six road games. The over is 4-1 in Bowling Green’s last five home games. The over is 4-1 in Bowling Green’s last five home games.
South Alabama’s offense isn’t the same as Tennessee's, but I still expect them to find plenty of success against Bowling Green’s defense. Jake Bentley is going to have a big game throwing all over the Bowling Green defense, and this game will get ugly early for the Falcons. Back South Alabama to cover the spread.
