The New Mexico State Aggies and New Mexico Lobos face off on Saturday in a Week 2 college football showdown at University Stadium. These two teams last faced off in 2019 and New Mexico came away with the 55-52 victory.
The New Mexico State Aggies have played two games already this year but neither of them have gone according to plan. New Mexico State opened up their season with a 30-3 loss against UTEP and in the last game against San Diego State they lost 28-10. New Mexico State was up 10-0 at halftime, but in the second half they fell apart and the offense couldn’t find any more success. Quarterback Jonah Johnson completed 34 of his 56 passes for 326 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. Johnson needs to limit his turnovers in this game, or New Mexico State will have some major issues coming away with the victory.
On the other side of this matchup is the New Mexico Lobos who opened up their season against Houston Baptist, a team that is known for their offense, but the Lobos defense was strong giving up only 17 points. New Mexico’s offense managed 27 points led by Terry Wilson Jr who threw for 174 yards and three touchdowns. Aaron Dumas had a nice game on the ground finishing with 15 carries for 57 yards. In this game, New Mexico is going to need to get the offense out to a fast start and run up the score to put pressure on the Aggies.
New Mexico State is 13-4 against the spread in their last 17 games on grass. New Mexico is 7-20 in their last 27 games on grass. The road team is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings between the two teams. The over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings played between the two teams.
The Lobos are the better team but I don’t think they deserve to be laying this type of number in this game. The Aggies offense did show some flashes in the last game, and they will move the ball enough in this game. Back New Mexico State against the spread.
