The Cal Golden Bears and TCU Horned Frogs face off on Saturday in a Week 2 college football showdown at Amon G. Carter Stadium. These two teams last faced off in 2018 and it was TCU that came away with the 10-7 victory..
The TCU Horned Frogs faced off with the Duquesne Dukes in the first game of the season, and it was the Horned Frogs that came away with the 45-3 victory. At halftime, TCU was up 35-0 and they never looked back as they cruised to the victory. Under center for TCU is Max Duggan who passed for 207 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Running back Kendre Miller also had a big game completing eight of his passes for 54 yards and a touchdown. TCU’s defense was elite, giving up only 76 yards through the air and 74 yards on the ground. This is a much bigger test for TCU and they need the defense to be good again.
On the other side of this matchup is the Cal Golden Bears who opened up their season against Nevada and it was a disappointing loss. The Golden Bears managed only three points in the second half and that led to the 22-17 defeat. Cal gave up only 22 points, but they also gave up 312 yards through the air. At quarterback, Cal is led by Chase Garbers and in the first game, he threw for 25 of his 38 passes for 177 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Running back Damien Moore had 15 carries for 79 yards and a touchdown.
Cal is 12-5 against the spread in their last 17 road games. TCU is 4-0 against the spread in their last four games against teams with a losing record. The over is 6-2 in Cal’s last eight games against the Big 12. The over is 5-1 in TCU’s last six games against the Pac-12. The under is 25-10 in TCU’s last 35 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.
Cal’s offense is an issue, and they aren’t going to improve on that against a very good TCU defense. I expect TCU to create a couple of turnovers and cruise to the victory. I do wish this number was a little lower, but TCU should cruise to the easy victory in this game. Back TCU to cover the spread.
