The Boston College Eagles and UMass Minutemen face off on Saturday in a Week 2 college football showdown at McGuirk Alumni Stadium. These two teams last faced off in 2018 and it was Boston College that came away with the 55-21 victory.
There are still a lot of questions about the Boston College Eagles heading into this game but they did look impressive in their first game of the season. Boston College faced off against Colgate and it was a dominant game as the Eagles came away with the 51-0 victory. Under center for Boston College is Phil Jurkovec and he threw for 303 yards and three touchdowns. Jurkovec was also the leading rusher finishing with 61 yards. Out wide the best receiver was Zay Flowers who caught seven passes for 135 yards and a touchdown. In this game it’s going to be about the offense running up the score and trying to make it a shootout.
On the other side of this matchup is the UMass Minutemen who opened up their season against the Pitt Panthers, and they were dominated losing 51-7. The only scoring for UMass came in the 4th quarter and the defense gave up at least 10 points in each of the quarters. The UMass defense really struggled giving up almost 400 yards through the air. Under center for UMass is Tyler Lytle and he threw for 14 of his 31 passes for 167 yards. UMass couldn’t get anything going on the ground with the top rusher being Kay’Ron Adams who finished with 32 yards on 11 carries.
Boston College is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games played in September. UMass is 5-12 against the spread in their last 17 games overall. The over is 5-2 in Boston College’s last seven games overall. The favorite is 4-0 against the spread in the last four meetings played between the two squads.
UMass’s defense is awful, and Boston College is going to have no issue running up the score in this game. Phil Jurkovec is going to have another big game through the air, and this game will get out of control early. Back Boston College to come away with a victory and a cover of the spread.
