The Miami Hurricanes will host the Appalachian State Mountaineers this Saturday in an FBS College Football matchup. The Hurricanes won the last meeting between these two, 45-10 back in 2016.
The 22-ranked Hurricanes will look to get their first win of the season after falling 44-13 in their opener against Alabama. They were not expected to win, but they failed to cover the 19.5-point spread at home against the top ranked Crimson Tide. Senior QB D’Eriq King completed 23-31 pass attempts for 178 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, mostly in the second half. Of their six first half drives, four ended in punts, one a fumble, and the last ended when the clock ran out in the second quarter. They managed just over 250 yards of total offense. WR Xavier Restrepo was the top performer, reeling in three passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. On defense they allowed 354 yards through the air, and 147 on the ground, getting outclassed in all facets of the game. They did manage to force one turnover, a forced fumble on Alabama QB Bryce Young.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers got their season off right with a 33-19 victory at home against the East Carolina Pirates, covering the 9-point spread. It was an all-around solid performance from the offense, with the team racking up 487 yards of total offense. Two rushers had over 100 yards, with Nate Noel and Camerun Peoples both averaging over seven yards per carry. Senior QB Chase Brice was efficient, completing 20 of 27 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns to one interception. On defense there is some room for improvement, as they gave295 yards of passing to a weak East Carolina offense. They also allowed nearly four yards per carry to the Pirates running backs. Brendan Harrington was the top performer, racking up two sacks in the game.
Miami is 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games, 7-3 on the money line, and the over is 5-5.
Appalachian State is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games, 7-3 on the money line, and the under is 7-3.
Miami will be motivated after getting humiliated in week one. Despite the drubbing, they still sit in the top-25. D’Eriq King was stifled in the first game back from a torn ACL last season, but he appeared to get more comfortable as the game went on. Appalachian State does not have the talent that Alabama does on the defensive side of the ball, so it will be tough for them to hold down a balanced Miami attack. Look for the Hurricanes to bounce back and win this one by a few scores.
