The Syracuse Orange and Ohio Bobcats face off on Saturday in a Week 1 college football showdown at Peden Stadium. These two teams have played twice before and it was Syracuse that came away with the two victories.
The Syracuse Orange had a terrible 2020 season finishing with a 1-10 record and the only win came over Georgia Tech. The offense for Syracuse was a big issue and only twice did they score 21 points. Under center for Syracuse Tommy DeVito is back under center for Syracuse but he only attempted 96 passes last season. If Syracuse wants to win this game, they are going to need a lot better quarterback play, and overall the offense needs to make sure to limit the turnovers. The defense also didn’t slow down many as they gave up 32.7 points and 463.9 yards per game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Ohio Bobcats who had a lot of big changes this season. This offseason, Frank Solich stepped down as head coach, and Tim Albin has stepped up to lead the team this season. Last season Ohio only played in three games, but they looked good in the games. Ohio averaged 34.3 points per game while their defense is giving up 16.7 points per game. Under center for Ohio is Kurtis Rourke who is one of the best quarterbacks in the MAC. Last season, Rourke completed 30 of his 44 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns. On defense last season, Ohio gave up only 16.7 points per game, but they are going to have their hands full in this game.
Ohio is one of the better teams in the MAC, but I still think they are going to struggle against Syracuse in this game. Syracuse’s defense is more experienced this year, and they will slow down Ohio. Back Syracuse to come away with a cover of the spread.
