The Kant State Golden Flashes and Texas A&M Aggies face off on Saturday in a Week 1 college football showdown at Kyle Field. This will be the first meeting ever between the two teams.
The Kent State Golden Flashes are hoping to build off the success they had during the 2020 season. Kent State finished with a 3-1 record and the biggest strength was their offense as they averaged 49 points per game and over 600 yards of total offense. Dustin Crum was under center last year throwing for over 1,100 yards and he is going to need to have one of the best games of his career to come away with the victory On defense Kent State is going to be tested, but they return a lot of key players from last years team including Brandon Coleman and Elvis Hines.
On the other side of this matchup is the Texas A&M Aggies who hope to take another step forward with Jimbo Fisher in charge. Last season Texas A&M finished with a 9-1 record and there is a lot of pressure on them this season to make a run for the Final Four. Last season the Aggies averaged 32.6 points while the defense gave up 21.7 points per game. Kellan Mond was a big reason for the Aggies success last season but he has moved onto the Minnesota Vikings. Replacing Mond under center will be Haynes King who has very little college experience. Outside of Mond though, most of the playmakers are back for this team including Isaiah Spiller who had a big season on the ground finishing with nine touchdowns.
Kent State is 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games overall. Texas A&M is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall. The over is 4-1 in Kent State’s last five road games. The under is 7-3 in Texas A&M’s last 10 games as a favorite.
Texas A&M is the better team, but I do expect King is going to struggle a little bit. Look for the experienced Kent State offense to find success and they will keep this game close enough to cover the spread.
