The Fresno State Bulldogs and Oregon State Beavers face off on Saturday in a Week 1 college football showdown at Autzen Stadium.
The Fresno State Bulldogs are one of those teams that has already played a game so far this season. Fresno State opened up the season against UConn, and there was never really any doubt about how that game was going to end up. Fresno State only scored seven points in the first quarter, but in the second quarter they really opened up scoring 24 points, and that was the difference as they cruised to the 45-0 victory. Quarterback Jake Haener had a big game throwing for 331 yards and three touchdowns. Fresno State also held the Huskies to only 72 yards passing.
On the other side of this matchup is the Oregon Ducks who didn’t find a whole lot of success during the 2020 season finishing with a 4-3 record overall. This team looks different from last year, and it starts under center. Anthony Brown Jr played most of his college football with the Boston College Eagles, but he transferred to Oregon and now will be the starter. As a Junior at Boston College. Brown threw for 1250 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions before having his season cut short because of injury. On defense the strength is going to be the linebacker group led by Noah Sewell and Isaac Slade-Matautia who both are in line to have big seasons.
The Bulldogs are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games against the Pac-12. Fresno State is 17-7-1 against the spread in their last 25 road games. Oregon is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games. The over is 4-1 in the last five meetings between Oregon and Fresno State.
This is a tougher matchup for Fresno State, but they are still going to find some sort of success. Fresno State is one of the best offenses in the Mountain West, and there are some questions about the defense for Oregon. Look for Fresno State’s offense to find enough success to cover this spread. I don’t expect a whole lot of defense to be played on either side, and the over will also cash.
