The Bethune Cookman Wildcats and UTEP Miners face off on Saturday in a Week 1 college football showdown at Sun Bowl.
The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats are in a very interesting situation heading into this game. Bethune-Cookman didn’t play last season so their last action came all the way back in 2019. The Wildcats finished with a 7-4 record that season but this team looks a lot different than the one that played that season. The good news for the Bethune-Cookman is they do have tight end, Taron Mallard, back, who could end up being one of the best offensive players in the SWAC.
On the other side of this matchup is the UTEP Miners who are one of the teams who played in Week 0. UTEP opened up their season against New Mexico State and they played almost a perfect game-winning 30-3. Under center for UTEP is Gavin Hardison and in the last game he threw for 249 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Ronald Awatt also was strong on the ground rushing for 74 yards and a touchdown. Out wide Jacob Cowing is a playmaker and he finished with five receptions for 158 yards and a touchdown.
UTEP is the much better team, and their offense is going to have no issue getting the job done. I don’t trust the WIldcats offense, and they are going to be locked down by the UTEP defense. Back UTEP to come away with a cover of the spread.
