The Clemson Tigers will be looking to dominate the college football ranks once again. Clemson finished the season (14-1), after falling to LSU in the FBS Playoff Championship Game. Dabo Swinney will be looking to lead Clemson back to the playoffs during the 2020 season. Get College Football Predictions at Pick Dawgz.
Clemson was led by star quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence passed for 3,665 yards, while throwing 36 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. The offense will be in good hands, as Lawrence will play his junior season, before having the option to test the NFL waters, once the 2020 season is over. Travis Etienne had an incredible season for Clemson out of the backfield. Etienne rushed for 1,614 yards, while scoring 19 touchdowns on the ground. The running back averaged 7.8 yards per rush. He will return for his senior season, to try and improve his draft stock.
When looking at the wideouts for the 2020 campaign, 1,000 yard receiver Tee Higgins declared for the draft. Justyn Ross collected 865 yards on 66 receptions, while totaling 8 touchdowns as a sophomore. Expect his statline to improve, due to the departure of Higgins. Amari Rodgers finished the 2019 season with 30 receptions and 426 yards, while hitting pay dirt 4 times. The offense averaged 43.9 points per game, which ranked 4th at the FBS level.
Defensively, Clemson was even better. The defense allowed 13.5 points per game, which ranked 3rd in the FBS. As a team, the defense collected 46 saves, while recording 19 interceptions. The defense will be led by linebacker James Skalski. Skalski totaled 90 tackles and 4.5 sacks. He will be a senior for the 2020 campaign. Defensive tackle Tyler Davis had a solid season for a freshman, collecting 5.5 sacks and 44 tackles. Expect Davis to see even more time as a sophomore.
Let us take a look at the Clemson schedule for the 2020 season.
- Sept. 3: at Georgia Tech
- Sept. 12: Louisville
- Sept. 19: Akron
- Sept. 26: Virginia
- Oct. 2: at Boston College
- Oct. 10: at Florida State
- Oct. 17: NC State
- Oct. 24: Syracuse
- Nov. 7: at Notre Dame
- Nov. 14: The Citadel
- Nov. 21: at Wake Forest
- Nov. 28: South Carolina
The Tigers will play the majority of their conference schedule before their non-conference slate. Clemson will take on Akron in week 3, but then won't play their next non-conference game till November 7th. Their other out of conference games are Notre Dame, The Citadel, and South Carolina. The majority of Clemson’s conference road games are against teams that finished with a losing record. Clemson’s toughest task will be a road game at Notre Dame. Clemson has a rather easy schedule for the 2020 season and I like the Dabo Swinney squad to run the table through the regular season. Therefore, I’m going to take the over on this win total, as Clemson is way too talented.
