The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs look to have the same success that was displayed during the 2019 season. Louisiana Tech finished the 2019 season with a record of (10-3) and a (6-2) record during C-USA play. The offense averaged 32.5 points per game, which was 36th best in the FBS. The defense was stout, allowing just under 22 points per contest, which ranked 30th. The program is under the guidance of Skip Holtz. Get College Football Predictions at Pick Dawgz.
The offense was led by quarterback J’Mar Smith last season. Smith assed for 2,977 yards, while throwing 18 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Aaron Allen is in line to be under center for the 2020 season, due to the graduation of Smith. Allen passed for 446 yards, while throwing 3 touchdowns and 1 pick. Running back Justin Henderson returns, having had a 1,000 yards season as a junior. Henderson rushed for 1,062 yards and 15 touchdowns, while averaging 5.6 yards per carry. Griffin Hebert and Adrian Hary are both back at the wideout slots. Hebert hauled in 30 receptions for 537 yards and 6 touchdowns, while Hardy reeled in 42 receptions for 534 yards and 1 touchdown.
As a team the defense registered 24 sacks, and an impressive 17 interceptions. Defensive back Amik Robertson will forgo his senior season, after having turned heads through 3 years at Louisiana Tech. Robertson collected 5 interceptions, while having an incredible 16 passes defended during the 2019 season. The cornerback had 14 interceptions and 34 passes defended. Linebacker Ezekiel Barnett recorded 4 sacks and 59 tackles as a junior.
Defensive backs Michael Sam and L’Jarius Sneed were also seniors last season. The both combined for 6 interceptions and 13 passes defended.
Let us take a look at the Louisiana Tech schedule for the 2020 season.
Sept. 5 at UNLV
Sept. 12 at Southern Miss
Sept. 19 Prairie View
Sept. 26 at Baylor
Oct. 10 UTEP
Oct. 17 Marshall
Oct. 24 at UTSA
Oct. 31 UAB
Nov. 7 at North Texas
Nov. 14 Rice
Nov. 21 at Vanderbilt
Nov. 28 at FIU
The Bulldogs will play 3 of their 4 non-conference games on the road. Louisiana Tech will have to go on the road to UNLV, Baylor, and Vanderbilt. The loan home game during the non-conference slate is Prairie View A&M. Conference USA had 5 teams that finished conference play at least 6-2 or better during the 2019 campaign. The team will need players to step up and fill major gaps. Nearly the whole secondary is gone and that was an area that carried the defense to success last year. The offense will have a different quarterback under center for the whole season.
The projected win total is set at 7 wins, which is 2 regular season wins less than last season. I’m going to take the under here, as the program has a tougher non-conference schedule this season and will be looking to fill a gap in the secondary. I’ll take Louisiana Tech to win 6-7 games, but still make a bowl game.
