The Arkansas Razorbacks and TCU Horned Frogs face off on Thursday for the Texas Bowl at NRG Stadium
The Arkansas Razorbacks are probably better than their record says, but in a normal year, this wouldn’t be a team that is making a bowl game. Arkansas currently sits with a 3-7 record overall and coming into this game they have lost four games in a row. Arkansas last game came against Alabama, and the offense could only manage three points while their defense gave up 52 points and that was a blowout loss. On the season Arkansas is averaging 25.7 points per game while their defense is giving up 34.9 points per game. One big question for Arkansas heading into this game is who will be under center for the team. Felipe Franks has been under center for most of the year but he is dealing with an upper body injury and it’s unclear if he is going to be able to go. If he can’t go it will be K.J. Jefferson who has thrown for 295 yards and three touchdowns on the season.
On the other side of this matchup is the TCU Horned Frogs who come into this game with a 6-4 record overall and they have won three games in a row. TCU’s last game came against Louisiana Tech and the offense was elite in that game putting up 52 points and that led to the victory. Each of the last three games TCU has also covered the spread. On the season TCU is averaging 30.8 points per game while their defense is giving up 24.2 points per game. Under center for TCU is Max Duggan who has thrown for 1795 yards, 10 touchdowns, and four interceptions. In this game for TCU it’s all going to be about the defense locking down.
The under is 8-1 in Arkansas’s last 9 Bowl games. The under is 8-1 in Arkansas’s last 9 bowl games. Arkansas is 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 vs. Big 12. The under is 7-2 in TCU last 9 Thursday games.TCU is 2-7 against the spread in their last 9 games on fieldturf. The under is 12-4 in TCU last 16 games in December.
The injury for Franks does concern me, but even if he plays, I don’t think that Arkansas is going to find a lot of success in this game. TCU’s offense is going to be strong, and that will lead to the Horned Frogs winning this game and covering the spread.
