The Western Michigan Broncos and Ball State Cardinals face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Scheumann Stadium.
Western Michigan had won their first four games of the season before losing their last game against Eastern Michigan. This is an offense that has been strong, but in the last game it was the defense that really let them down giving up 53 points and that led to an 11 point loss. On the season Western Michigan is averaging 44.6 points per game while their defense is giving up 35 points per game. At quarterback, the star of the show for Western Michigan has been Kaleb Eleby who has thrown for 1426 yards, 16 touchdowns, and one interception. In this game if Western Michigan wants to come away with the victory the defense needs to step up at least a little bit and slow down Ball State.
On the other side of this matchup is the Ball State Cardinals who also sit with a 4-1 record and they have won four games in a row including their last game against Central Michigan, a game they won 45-20. On the season Ball State is averaging 34.4 points per game while their defense is giving up 27.6 points per game. The defense in this game is going to need to step up in a big way. At quarterback Ball State is led by Drew Pitt who has thrown for 1,425 yards, 10 touchdowns, and five interceptions. The good news for this team is they have the offense to be built for shootouts, but the offense stepping up would be a lot easier.
The over is 7-2-1 in Western MIchigan’s last 10 road games. Ball State is 8-1 against the spread in their last nine games played against team’s with a winning record. The over is 7-2 in Ball State’s last nine games on fieldturf. The over is 7-1 in the last eight meetings played between the two teams played at Ball State.
Western Michigan likes to run up the score but they also don’t play a whole lot of defense. In this game look for both teams to run up the score and for both defenses to be mostly nonexistent. Back the over to cash in this one.
