The Liberty Flames and Coastal Carolina Chanticleers face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Brooks Stadium. Who thought at the beginning of the season this game would be such a key game.
Liberty comes into this game with a 9-1 record overall and the only loss this season for Hugh Freeze’s squad was against North Carolina State but that loss was by only one point. Liberty did bounce back in a big way in their last game against UMass winning 45-0. On the season, Liberty is averaging 37.3 points per game while the defense is giving up 19.2 points per game. Liberty has gotten good quarterback play, but the offense has also been strong averaging 252.1 yards per game on the ground. Malik Willis has been the top passer and running back for this team. Willis has thrown for 2040 yards, 20 touchdowns, and four interceptions this season. Willis has also rushed for 807 yards. This is going to be a test and if they want to win the defense is going to need to be strong.
On the other side of this matchup is the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers who sit with a perfect 9-0 record overall and they have been battle tested. In the last game against Texas State, it was the offense that was the difference again putting up 49 points and that led to the victory. On the season Coastal Carolina is averaging 38.7 points per game while their defense is giving up 16.8 points per game. Freshman quarterback Grayson McCall has been the real deal for this team and coming into this game he has thrown for 1747 yards, 20 touchdowns, and one interception. The good news for Coastal Carolina is they can win high scoring games, but their defense can also be leaned on and they can have success in those type of games.
These are two teams who are pretty even and it will come down to the last possession. Liberty might not do enough to win the game, but they are going to keep it within a field goal. Back Liberty cover the spread.
