The Florida InternationalPanthers and Charlotte 49ers face off on Saturday in a college basketball showdown at Jerry Richardson Stadium.
Florida International have had some real struggles this year and coming into this game they are still looking for their first win of the season. In the last game against Western Kentucky their offense put up 21 points, but the defense gave up 38 points and that led to the loss. On the season FIU is averaging 22.4 points per game while their defense is giving up 32.4 points per game. One of the big questions heading into this game is who will be under center in this game. Max Bortenschlager left the last game with an injury and it’s unclear if he is going to be able to go in this game. If he can’t go it will be Steve Norton who has thrown for 252 yards and three touchdowns. In this game if they want to win the offense is going to need to be better.
On the other side of this matchup is the Charlotte 49ers who have dealt with a large COVID outbreak and their last game all the way back on Halloween. Charlotte had won two games in a row heading into that game against Duke. In that last game against Duke the defense struggled giving up 53 points and that led to the loss. Charlotte is currently averaging 28.6 points per game while their defense is giving up 31.6 points per game. At quarterback, Charlotte is led by Chris Reynolds and coming into this game he has thrown for 1,100 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions. In this game they are going to need Reynolds to get the job done.
FIU is 1-7 against the spread in their last eight conference games. The over is 7-1 in FIU’s last eight games overall. Charlotte is 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games against a team with a losing record. The over is 9-4 in Charlotte’s last 13 home games.
The long layoff is a bit of concern for me with Charlotte, but they are still the better team and should run up the game in this one. Look for Charlotte to run up the score and they will have no issue getting the job done.
