This Game Has Been Postponed. The Rice Owls will travel to Joe Aillet Stadium to take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Rice Owls had their 4th game of the season postponed due to COVID-19 last week and come into this game came with an overall record of 1-1 (C-USA West) on the season. Rice picked up their first win of the season the week before after defeating the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, 30-6, on October 31st. Rice was outstanding defensively agianst the Southern Mississippi offense and was able to pull away after a 13-yard TD reception by Austin Trammell gave the Owls a 23-3 lead with 2:04 left in the 2nd quarter. Rice outgained Southern Mississippi by a 412-269 margin and won the turnover battle by a 3-1 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Owls was WR Austin Trammell who had 143 receiving yards & 3 TD’s on 7 receptions.
On the season, Rice is averaging 32.0 ppg on 418.5 total yards per game (237.5 passing yds/g; 181.0 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Rice has been led by QB Mike Collins who has completed 30 of 52 passes for 475 yards, 8 TD, and 1 INT. The top receiving threats for the Owls have been Austin Trammell (10 rec, 219 yards, 5 TD), Jake Bailey (5 rec, 67 yards, TD), Jordan Myers (6 rec, 65 yards), and Jack Bradley (2 rec, 49 yards, TD). Leading the way for the Owls backfield has been Juma Otoviano who has 195 rushing yards on 45 carries.
Defensively, Rice is allowing their opponents to average 23.0 ppg on 360.0 total yards per game (251.0 passing yds/g; 109 rushing yds/g).
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs also had their game last week agianst North Texas postponed due to COVID-19 and come into this game with an overall record of 4-3 (3-2 C-USA West). Louisiana Tech was able to recently snap a 2-game losing streak after defeating the UAB Blazers, 37-34 in 2 OT, on October 31st. Louisiana Tech was able to force OT after scoring the game-tying TD on a 24-yard TD receptions by Adrian Hardy and won in OT on a 35-yard FG after UAB fumbled in their 2nd OT possession. Louisiana Tech was outgained by UAB by a 485-381 margin, however, did win the turnover battle by a 3-1 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was WR Adrian Hardy who had 7 receptions for 101 yards & 2 TD’s.
On the season, Louisiana Tech is averaging 30.3 ppg on 334.4 total yards per game (242.4 passing yds/g; 92.0 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Louisiana Tech has been led by QB Luke Anthony who has completed 62.5% of his passes for 1,208 yards, 13 TD, & 4 INT. The top receiving threats for Anthony and the Bulldogs have been Adrian Hardy (33 rec, 440 yards, 4 TD), Smoke Harris (23 rec, 223 yards, 3 TD), and Griffin Hebert (15 rec, 223 yards, 2 TD). Leading the way for the Louisiana Tech backfield has been the duo of Israel Tucker (82 att, 336 yards, 2 TD) and Justin Henderson (75 att, 252 yards, 2 TD).
Defensively, Louisiana Tech is allowing their opponents to average 32.3 ppg on 420.7 total yards per game (253.1 passing yds/g; 167.6 rushing yds/g).
The Owls are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games in November and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Bulldogs are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a straight up win, however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Louisiana Tech comes into this game with a winning record, however, this team is not as strong as we have seen in past years as three of those wins came against USM, HBU, and UTEP. Rice has had trouble getting on the field this season, but looked great in their recent game against USM as I think the offensive duo of Mike Collins & Austin Trammell will find success against the Bulldogs defense that has struggled agianst the pass, I’m going to take Rice to cover this small road spread. Good Luck!
