The Florida International Panthers will travel to the Sun Bowl to take on the UTEP Miners this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Florida International Panthers have been hit hard this season due to COVID-19 and had their 3rd game of the season cancelled last week when they were scheduled to take on the 19th ranked Marshall Thundering Herd. Florida International is still looking for their first win of the season as the Panthers dropped to 0-3 (0-1 C-USA) on the season after falling to the FCS Jacksonville State Gamecocks, 19-10, on October 23rd. Florida International couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end agianst the Gamecocks and couldn’t fight back after Jacksonville State took a 16-3 lead early in the 3rd quarter. Florida International was outgained by a 444-156 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Panthers was Nate Jefferson who had 2 receptions for 38 yards and a TD.
On the season, Florida International is averaging 24.0 ppg on 262.7 total yards per game (92.7 passing yds/g; 170.0 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Florida International has been led by the RB duo of D’vonte Price (35 att, 303 yards, 3 TD) and Shaun Peterson Jr. (28 att, 168 yards, 2 TD). QB Stone Norton has completed 53.1% of his passes for 207 yards & 3 TD. The top receiving threats for the Panthers have been Bryce Singleton (7 rec, 90 yards, TD), Nate Jefferson (5 rec, 62 yards, TD), and Sterling Palmer (5 rec, 44 yards).
Defensively, Florida International is allowing their opponents to average 28.7 ppg on 458.3 total yards per game (245.0 passing yds/g; 213.3 rushing yds/g).
The UTEP Miners also had last week off as their game against North Texas was cancelled due to COVID-19. UTEP comes into this game with an overall 3-3 (0-2 C-USA) record after dropping their most recent matchup on October 24th to the Charlotte 49ers, 38-28. UTEP struggled with turnovers against Charlotte and could not fight back after a 36-yard TD run by the 49ers Aaron McAllister gave Charlotte a 38-21 lead with 2:30 left in the 4th quarter. UTEP outgained Charlotte by a 374-329 margin, however, lost the turnover battle by a 3-0 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Miners was WR Justin Garrett who had 9 receptions for 107 yards & 2 TD’s.
On the season, UTEP is averaging 20.0 ppg on 340.3 total yards per game (218.2 passing yds/g; 122.2 rushing yds/g). Offensively, UTEP has been led by the RB trio of Deion Hankins (83 att, 419 yards, 6 TD), Joshua Fields (64 att, 200 yards, TD), and Ronald Awatt (24 att, 90 yards, 3 TD). Defensively, UTEP is allowing their opponents to average 25.2 ppg on 326.5 total yards per game (218.8 passing yds/g; 107.7 rushing yds/g).
The Panthers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games and 2-3 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Miners are 4-2 ATS on the season, however, just 1-7 ATS in their 8 home games.
Florida International lost a close game to a very good Liberty team to start their season, but it has been a struggle since in losses to both MTSU and Jacksonville State. UTEP has lost their last two games but covered in both of them and as I think their defense is going to the Panthers trouble, I am taking the Miners at home to cover this small spread. Good Luck!
