The Eastern Michigan Eagles and Kent State Golden Flashes face off Wednesday in their first college football game of the year at Dix Stadium.
The Eastern Michigan Eagles finished last season with a 6-7 record but this is a team that is competitive again and if they want to have a good year, this is a game they should win. Last season Eastern Michigan was a very good team on the ground, but they had struggles throwing the ball. Quarterback Mike Glass is gone, but they do have a couple options in Preston Hutchinson and Chris Helbig. On defense, last season, Eastern Michigan’s defense had their struggles giving up 430.5 yards and 31 points per game. A lot of the front seven is back for Eastern Michigan but their secondary has three parts missing and that could be a problem going forward in this game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Kent State Golden Flashes who finally seemed to turn around their program last season and they finished with a 7-6 record and 5-3 in the MAC. The offense was inconsistent last year for Kent State but when it was on, a lot of points were scored and they moved fast. Quarterback Dustin Crum looked good, especially in the second half of the year throwing for 2600 yards, 20 touchdowns, and two interceptions. On defense, Kent State wasn’t terrible but there is no doubt some room for improvement and in this game they are going to need to be strong, especially trying to stop the run.
Eastern Michigan is 20-6 against the spread in their last 26 road games. The over is 8-3 in Kent State’s last 11 games played in November.
Kent State’s offense is going to be good in this game and that will be the difference. Eastern Michigan is going to struggle to score in this game and that will lead to Kent State winning this game and they will cover the spread.
