The Buffalo Bulls and Northern Illinois Huskies face off Wednesday in a MAC conference college football showdown at Huskie Stadium.
The Buffalo Bulls looked good during the 2019 season finishing with eight wins and they closed out the season with their first bowl win in school history. On offense Buffalo is a run first team and that should be their path to victory in this game. Jaret Patterson is not only the best running back in the MAC, he is one of the best running backs in all of college football. At quarterback it’s going to be Kyle Vantrease under center and he took a big step forward last year. If Buffalo is going to win the MAC again, Patterson will have a big season. On defense it all starts with the defensive line and how much pressure they can get on the quarterback. This is a good opening test for Buffalo and the one thing they don’t want to be doing in this game is falling behind.
Last season the biggest issue with the Northern Illinois Huskies was their inconsistency and that led to them winning only five games. Northern Illinois is going to look a lot different this season with a lot of players transferring out to different schools. It’s still a little bit of a questions about who will be under center for Northern Illinois, but Ross Bowers is back from last year’s team and will probably have the first shot. Don’t be shocked if he has a short least though and if he were to struggle he might get pulled. In the backfield there has also been a lot of changes but whoever is in the backfield is going to need to run the ball strong.Northern Illinois is usually known for their defense, but this is a team that has lost a lot of talent
Buffalo is 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games overall. The over is 15-5-1 in Buffalo’s last 21 games played in November. The under is 8-3 in NIU’s last 11 home games.
This is a different Northern Illinois team that has so many question marks and they are going to struggle to score in this game. This game is going to stay on the ground and Northern Illinois is going to really try and keep the fight on the ground. Back the under to cash in this game.
