The Iowa State Cyclones and Oklahoma State Cowboys face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Boone Pickens Stadium.
Iowa State opened up their season with a shocking loss against Louisiana Lafayette but since that point they have played a lot better and won three games in a row. This is a team that has beaten Oklahoma and they also held a good Texas Tech offense to only 15 points. Each of the last three games the Cyclones have also scored at least 31 points, and a good offense is going to need to be important in this one. At quarterback, Iowa State is led by Block Purdy who comes into this game having thrown for 912 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Iowa State on defense is giving up 100 yards per game and they need to lock down in this one on the ground.
On the other side of this matchup is the Oklahoma State Cowboys who have won each of their three games and they have also covered the spread in the last two games but this is going to be their best test of the season. The offense might not have lived up to the expectations the first two games, but this is a defense that has proven to be elite. In three games, Oklahoma State has given up only 27 points total and less than 275 yards per game. One big question heading into this game is who will be under center. Spencer Sanders started the season under center but he was injured in the first game of the year. It appears he will be ready to go for this game, but will the team turn the ball to him or will they continue to start Shane Illingworth.
The under is 15-5-1 in Iowa State’s last 21 road games. Iowa State is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games overall. Oklahoma State is 12-4-1 against the spread in their last 17 games overall. The Cowboys are 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 home games.
Oklahoma State is an elite defensive team and that will continue in this game. This should be a very competitive game with the defenses being the focal point. Who is going to win is a true toss-up, but the under will cash.
