The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and UAB Blazers face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at Legion Field.
Western Kentucky has had some struggles this season and coming into this game they have won only one game. Western Kentucky’s biggest issue this season has been with their offense and even in their game against MIddle Tennessee they scored only 20 points. In the last game against Marshall, they lost 38-14. One thing this offense has done well this season has been taking care of the ball and neither of their quarterbacks have thrown an interception yet. Western Kentucky is only averaging 112 yards per game on the ground and they need a more balanced attack. On defense overall Western Kentucky hasn’t been terrible, but they will need to be strong in this game. If Western Kentucky wants any chance to come away with a victory, they are going to need to try and control time of possession.
On the other side of this matchup is the UAB Blazers who have won three of their four games this season with the only loss coming against the Miami Hurricanes. Even with the success, UAB didn’t look so dominant in their last game against UTSA, winning by only eight points in a game they were 21.5 point favorites in. UAB uses a balanced attack on offense averaging 415.5 yards and 30.5 points per game. Bryson Lucero has been the starting quarterback for the Blazers and he has thrown for 652 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions.
The over is 7-1 in Western Kentucky’s last eight games on fieldturf. UAB is 8-1 against the spread in their last nine games played in October. UAB is 10-2 against the spread in their last 12 games against a team with a losing record. The under is 9-2-1 in UAB”s last 12 games played in October.
UAB is the better team, but Western Kentucky does a defense to keep this game close. It might not be the prettiest game but they are going to keep this game low scoring enough to cover the spread.
