The East Carolina Pirates and South Florida Bulls face off on Saturday in an AAC college football showdown at Raymond James Stadium.
Coming into the season there were expectations with the East Carolina Pirates team but if they don’t want this season to be wasted they need to turn around their season quickly. Everyone knew East Carolina’s defense was going to be an issue but their offense hasn’t done enough to make up for those struggles. On the season East Carolina is averaging 28.5 points per game while the defense is giving up 50 points per game. Holton Ahers is a dynamic quarterback but on the season he has only thrown for 451 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions. In this game they need the offense to step up in a big way or they could be in some trouble.
On the other side of this matchup is the South Florida Bulls who won their first game of the season against Citadel but since that point they have lost two games against Notre Dame and the Cincinnati Bearcats. This is an offense that has really struggled and over the last two games they have scored only seven points total while giving up 80. The running game for South Florida has actually been decent, but the passing game hasn’t been great. Starting quarterback Jordan McCloud has only thrown for 269 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. In this game the Bulls need to find a way to get their offense going or they will be in trouble.
The over is 7-1 in East Carolina’s last eight games overall. East Carolina is 6-17 against the spread in their last 23 road games. East Carolina is 7-19 against the spread in their last 26 games played in October. USF are 7-15 against the spread in their last 22 conference games. East Carolina is 1-7 against the spread in their last eight meetings against South Florida.
East Carolina has struggled this season but I don’t think South Florida has the offense to keep themselves in this game. Look for the Pirates to run up the score in this game, the Bulls offense will struggle again, and East Carolina will pull the upset.
