The Abilene Christian Wildcats and the UTEP Miners face off on Saturday in a non-conference college football showdown at the Sun Bowl.
The UTEP Miners are one of the few teams that has played two games so far this season and they currently sit with a 1-1 record. After UTEP was able to beat a bad Stephen F. Austin team, UTEP struggled all over against the Texas Longhorns and that led to a 59-3 defeat. Gavin Hardison is the starting quarterback for UTEP and after a strong first start, he struggled against a strong Texas defense and was eventually pulled. More concerning then the offense is the way the defense played against Texas. They let Sam Ehlinger throw for 426 yards and five touchdowns. If they want to win this game they need the defense to step up like they did in the first week.
On the other side of this matchup is the Abilene Christin Wildcats who were disappointing during the 2019 season winning only five games and they struggled against FBS level teams. To start last season, the Wildcats lost to North Texas giving up 51 points to them, and to close their season they lost to Mississippi State 45-7. For the most part last year, the offense was good, and it was the defense that let them down. Against Arizona Christian last season they scored 66 points and that led to an easy blowout victory.
Check back later for some trends.
There is no reason to believe Abilene Christian’s defense is going to be any better in this game and that is going to elt them down. Look for the UTEP Miners to run up the score and they will have no issue getting the job done. Back the Miners to win this game and cover the spread.
