The Mississippi State Bulldogs are on the road for a battle with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Mississippi State finished the 2019 season with an overall record of (6-7), while Alabama went (11-2). Alabama won the matchup last season rather easily, routing Mississippi State 38-7. Let’s take a closer look at both programs. Get College Football predictions at Pick Dawgz.
Mississippi State will be needing quarterback Garrett Shrader to improve off of his stat line from his limited 2019 season. Coach Joe Moorhead will be looking to running back Kylin Hill for leadership. Hill rushed for more than 1,350 yards and 10 scores. One of those touchdowns from Hill came against Alabama last season. Mississippi State did not have a dynamic passing game last season, as the no receiver had more than 30 receptions and 430 yards receiving. It was the run game where the Bulldogs saw success, as Mississippi State collected 27 rushing scores. If Mississippi State wants to give Alabama a game this season, the offense will have to be more balanced. For more on Mississippi State, check out the team preview.
Alabama will be turning to Mac Jones to lead the offense during 2020. Jones played well last season, as he saw a decent amount of playing time, while he was filling in for the injured Tua Tagovailoa. Just like Mississippi State, Alabama also returns a 1,000 yard rusher. Najee Harris is back for the 2020 campaign, after totaling nearly 1,225 yards on the ground. Harris rushed for 88 yards and found the end zone 3 times on the ground in the matchup last season against Mississippi State. For more on Alabama, check out the team preview.
Overview: The Crimson Tide have opened up as 24 point favorites for the 2020 matchup against Mississippi State. Alabama won the meeting last season by 31 points. Alabama has a better program than Mississippi State in the always brutal SEC and this matchup should show exactly that. The Crimson Tide have a better group of skilled position players, while the Bulldogs have a good backfield. Alabama should not lose a beat on offense with Mac Jones under center, which will bode well against a Mississippi State defense that lost more than a few key players on defense from the 2019 team. I’ll side with Alabama to cover this large spread at home.
