San Diego State Aztecs (0-0) vs. BYU Cougars (0-0)
College Football: Saturday, November 14, 2020 in Provo, UT
The Line: BYU -10.0 -- Over/Under:
The San Diego State Aztecs are on the road for a non-conference battle with the BYU Cougars. San Diego State finished the 2019 season with an overall record of (10-3), while BYU went (7-6). The two teams met last season, as San Diego State came out on top, 13-3. Let’s take a closer look at both programs. Get College Football predictions at Pick Dawgz.
San Diego State struggled to get anything going offensively last season against BYU, as the Aztecs scored just 13 points. However, the offense will look different than what was seen in the matchup a year ago. San Diego State will have a new quarterback for the 2020 season, as Ryan Agnew played his senior year in 2019. San Diego State will be looking for a running back to take control during 2020, as last season was a running back by committee. The defense will be hard to mirror from 2019, as the Aztecs had the 2nd best scoring defense last season. For more on San Diego State, check out the team preview.
BYU will have an experienced quarterback under center for 2020, as Zach Wilson returns. Wilson did not throw a touchdown in the meeting against San Diego State last season, but did pass for over 300 yards in the contest, while completing 31 passes. BYU did not have a strong rush game out of the backfield, as Sione Finau led the backfield in rushing yards with 359. BYU did ot have a strong pass rush last season, but did show strengths in the secondary. For More on BYU, check out the team preview.
Overview: BYU has opened as 10 point favorites in this contest. San Diego State was led primarily by their defense last season, as their defense allowed less than 14 points in 8 games. However, San Diego State will need to adapt to a new quarterback on offense, while BYU has an experienced quarterback. The Aztecs will more than likely regress from last season, but their defense should still be way above average. I’m going to side with San Diego State to at east keep this game within 10 points on the road.
