BYU Cougars (0-0) vs. Boise State (0-0)
College Football: Friday, November 6, 2020 in Boise, ID
The Line: boise State -2.5 -- Over/Under:
The Boise State Broncos will play host to the BYU Cougars in a non-conference matchup on November 6, 2020. Boise State finished the 2019 season with an overall record of (12-2), while BYU went (7-6). Let’s take a closer look at each program. Get College Football predictions at Pick Dawgz.
BYU will be looking to improve off of their 2019 season and a road win at Boise State would sure go a long way. BYU will be led by junior quarterback Zach Wilson. Wilson passed for nearly 2,400 yards, while throwing 11 touchdowns in 2019. The receiving core will be paced by tight end Matt Bushman. Bushman turned in a solid campaign a year ago, collecting 688 yards, while contributing 4 touchdowns. The coaching staff will be hoping for a more balanced defense this season. BYU struggled in the pass rush department, but came ready to play in the secondary at crucial times. If BYU wants to give Boise State a game, the defense will need to be balanced. Boise State will look a little different this season, with previous quarterback Jaylon Henderson graduating. However, Boise State will have a quarterback that has had experience, if this is a route the coaching staff goes. Hank Bachmeier threw for nearly 1,900 yards, while filling in for Henderson at times. The program will see running back George Holani back in the backfield for the 2020 season. Holani is an established running back, as he totaled over 1,000 yards rushing a year ago. The Broncos will also have talent in the receiving core. While the quarterback position may be shaky at times, the defense should be stout. Boise State returns their core defensive players from the 2019 season. Boise State has the potential to improve from a 2019 campaign that saw the defense finish 31st in fewest points allowed per game. For more on Boise State, check out the team preview.
Overview: Boise State has opened up as 2.5 point favorites. The Broncos might be shaky under center at times throughout the season, but look for the defense to keep the offense in more than a handful of games. This game is at home for Boise State, which should be an advantage for the Broncos. BYU will be entering this game fresh off a bye week. However, the Boise State defense will be too much for a BYU offense to handle in a road environment. I’ll side with Boise State to win by at least a field goal.
