The Wake Forest Demon Deacons play host to the Miami Hurricanes on October 9th, 2020 at BB&T Field in Winston-salem, NC. Wake Forest finished the 2019 campaign with an overall record of (8-5), while Miami went (6-7). These two teams last squared off during the 2013 season. Let’s take a closer look at both programs. The Miami Hurricanes will be looking to find improvement during the 2020 season. Their win total is projected 3 wins higher than their total of wins from last season. The oddsmakers are projecting considerable improvement for this season. Miami ranked 90th last campaign in points forwards on offense. The defense was stout, holding opponents to just over 20 per game. Quarterback Jarren Williams is entering his sophomore season. Oddsmakers will be hoping that the experience he gathered will pay dividends this season. The coaching staff will be hoping for the same. We shall see how Williams sophomore season will go, as Miami did lose two of their better wideouts from the 2019 season. The defense will need Gregory Rousseau to be on point for this contest and the whole season. For more on Miami, check out the team preview.
Wake Forest will need to find success during the 2020 campaign without Jamie Newman. Newman transferred to Georgia as a grad transfer. Newman was a huge part of Wake Forest’s achievements last year, as the quarterback passed for nearly 2,900 yards, while throwing 26 touchdowns. The good news for the Demon Deacons is Sam Hartman has more than enough experience and should be able to fill in for Newman. The defense will see a few of their talented pieces from last year’s 8 win team return. For more on Wake Forest, check out the team preview.
Overview: Miami will have a better season than last year, but I’m not high on the Hurricanes winning at Wake Forest. Miami was 2-3 on the road a season ago, while Wake Forest was 6-1 at home. This spread has opened at Miami being 14 point favorites on the road. Seeing how the Miami offense lost a few of their better players from last season, in a year that the offense under performed, this spread seems high. Wake Forest did lose their leader and best player, but the offense will still be able to slide a quarterback in that has had plenty of experience. I’m siding with Wake Forest to cover this two touchdown spread at home.
