Kentucky Wildcats (0-0) vs. Florida Gators (0-0)
College Football: Saturday, September, 12, 2020 in Gainesville, FL
The Line: Florida -14.0 -- Over/Under:
The Kentucky Wildcats hit the road for a week 2 SEC matchup with the Florida Gators. Kentucky will be looking to build off of a 2019 season that saw the program go (8-5), while Florida went (11-2). Florida won the meeting at Kentucky last season, 29-21. Let’s take a look at each team. Get College Football picks all season long at Pick Dawgz.
Kentucky lost their key piece of their offense from last season, as Lynn Bowden Jr. did it all. Name a position, he played it. Quaterack Sawyer Smith looks to have a chance at more playing time this season, as he passed for 690 yards, while having a touchdown to interceptions ratio of 4 to 5. The backfield will return running back Asim Rose. Rose rushed for over 825 yards, while totaling 6 touchdowns. The defense will be looking to bring the same success, as Kentucky got to the opposing quarterback 33 times, while forcing 15 fumbles. For more on Kentucky, check out the team preview.
Florida has the luxury of returning their starting quarterback from the previous season. Kyle Trask is back for his senior season, after passing for nearly 3,000 yards, while throwing 25 touchdowns and 7 picks. Coach Dan Mullins will be looking to running back Dameon Pierce to take over for La’Mical Perine. Pierce registered 4 touchdowns, while rushing for over 300 yards. One of Trask's Favorite targets is back, tight end Kyle Pitts. Pitts recorded 54 receptions for nearly 650 yards and 5 scores. Look for Pitts stat line to increase during 2020. Defensively, Florida had one of the best pass rush schemes throughout all of college football. The Gators got to the quarterback 49 times successfully, while being very active in the passing game. Overview: Florida opens up as a two touchdown favorite at home. Florida returns plenty of talent, which should help the team compete for that top spot again in the SEC East. This will only be the second game of the campaign for 2020 and Kentucky will still be getting their offense figured out. Kentucky will need plenty of players to step up, as their offense revolved around one player last season. It will take a few games for Kentucky to find their footing. I’m siding with Florida to get the job done at home and cover this 14 point spread.
