Breaking Down the Miami Hurricanes Win Total
2020 College Football Season
Miami (FL): O/U 9.0 Wins -- Title Odds: +15000
The Miami Hurricanes will be looking to find more consistency during the 2020 season. The Hurricanes finished with an overall record of (6-7) and a ACC record of (4-4) during the 2019 campaign. The offense struggled to score, ranking 90th in points per game, totaling 25.7. The defense was rather impressive, holding opponents to just 20.2. The program is under the direction of Manny Diaz.
The offense used three different quarterbacks during the season, primarily being led by freshman Jarren Williams, Williams passed for 2,187 yards and 19 touchdowns and 7 picks. Cam’Ron Harris rushed for 576 yards and 5 touchdowns, as he will be returning to the backfield for the 2020 season. The offense will have to overcome some of their receivers, who either ran out of eligibility or declared for the draft. K.J. Osborn was the leading receiver a year ago, but was a senior during the 2019 campaign. Jeff Thomas declared for the draft and will skip his senior season, after hauling in 31 receptions for 379 yards. Junior tight end Brevin Jordan will be back for his junior season, after registering 495 yards and 2 touchdowns.
As a team the defense collected47 sacks and 10 interceptions. The defense was led in tackles by linebacker Shaquille Quarterman. Quarterman recorded 107 tackles and added 5 pass break ups as a senior. Defensive lineman Gregory Rousseau had a phenomenal redshirt freshman season. Rousseau had a team lead of 15.5 sacks, while collecting 54 tackles. Al Blades Jr contributed 2 interceptions and 6 pass break ups in the secondary as a sophomore.
Let us take a look at the Miami schedule for the 2020 season.
Sept. 5 Temple
Sept. 12 Wagner
Sept. 19 UAB
Sept. 26 at Michigan State
Oct. 3 Pitt
Oct. 9 at Wake Forest
Oct. 24 North Carolina
Oct. 31 at Virginia
Nov. 7 Florida State
Nov. 14 at Virginia Tech
Nov. 21 at Georgia Tech
Nov. 28 Duke
Miami will be chomping at the bit to get back on the field, after being shutout in their bowl game by Louisiana Tech. The Hurricanes open the season with three straight non-conference home games. Miami plays host to Temple, Wagner, and UAB. Miami should start the season 3-0, before hitting the road for their final non-conference game against Big Ten member Michigan State. The Spartans are down this season, so this is a toss up game. However, I’m going to side with the home field advantage for Michigan State. As playing a Big Ten opponent is a huge step up from their first 3 games of the season.
The projected win total is set at 9 wins. The Hurricanes have a favorable schedule, but seeing how Miami will need to add depth to their receiving core, I'm going to take the under. Miami lucks out and doesn’t have to face Clemson or Louisville. Seeing how the schedule shakes out, I’m going to take Miami on the under, but Miami will finish with more wins than the 2019 season. An 8-4 season looks appropriate, with losses to Michigan State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.
