The North Carolina Tar Heels and Temple Owls meet Friday in the college football Military Bowl at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
The North Carolina Tar Heels look to get a game above a .500 record while earning their first bowl win since 2013. The North Carolina Tar Heels have split their last four non-home games. Sam Howell is completing 60.3 percent of his passes for 3,347 yards, 35 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Howell has 13 touchdown passes in his last four games. The North Carolina Tar Heels ground game is averaging 184 yards per contest, and Michael Carter leads the way with 919 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, North Carolina is allowing 24.6 points and 381.6 yards per game. Chazz Surratt leads the North Carolina Tar Heels with 110 tackles, Tomon Fox has 5.5 sacks and Myles Wolfolk has three interceptions.
The Temple Owls have split their last six games and look for their third bowl win since 1980. The Temple Owls have split their last four non-home games. Anthony Russo is completing 58.6 percent of his passes for 2,733 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Russo has 14 touchdown passes and nine interceptions in his last 10 games. The Tar Heels are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite, 2-5 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games. The Owls are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games, 49-24 ATS in their last 73 games as an underdog and 35-16 ATS in their last 51 games overall. The under is 6-2 in Tar Heels last 8 neutral site games. The over is 5-2 in Owls last 7 neutral site games.
The North Carolina Tar Heels finished the season strong on both sides of the ball with wins over Mercer and NC State, but we can't ignore the struggles this team had in the heart of their schedule. UNC had issues getting off the field and the offense couldn't finish drives to put games away. The Temple Owls are a team that's been kind to us in the underdog role for years and those who have followed along know I often blindly back this team whenever they get points. Temple is a tough nosed team that often grinds underdog spots to outright victories. It also doesn't hurt that Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium is just a two hour car ride from Philly, so Owls' fans should pack the place. Give me the points.
