The USC Trojans and Iowa Hawkeyes meet Friday in the college football Holiday Bowl at SDCCU Stadium.
The USC Trojans have won five of their last six games and hope to win their first bowl game since 2016. The USC Trojans have won their last three non-home games. Kedon Slovis is completing 71.8 percent of his passes for 3,242 yards, 28 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Slovis has three or more touchdown passes in five straight games. Michael Pittman Jr. and Amon-Ra St. Brown have combined for 2,101 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns while Tyler Vaughns has 68 receptions. The USC Trojans ground game is averaging 126.2 yards per contest, and Vavae Malepeai leads the way with 466 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, USC is allowing 27.8 points and 415.8 yards per game. John Houston Jr. leads the USC Trojans with 100 tackles, Drake Jackson has 5.5 sacks and Isaiah Pola-Mao has four interceptions.
The Iowa Hawkeyes look for their third straight bowl win and their first double-digit winning season since 2015. The Iowa Hawkeyes have split their last four non-home games. Nate Stanley is completing 58.9 percent of his passes for 2,738 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Stanley has three or more touchdown passes in six of his last 21 games. Ihmir Smith-Marsette and Tyrone Tracy Jr. have combined for 1,265 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while Brandon Smith has 33 receptions. The Iowa Hawkeyes ground game is averaging 139.5 yards per contest, and Tyler Goodson leads the way with 590 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, Iowa is allowing 13.2 points and 304.3 yards per game. Kristian Welch leads the Iowa Hawkeyes with 80 tackles, A.J. Epenesa has nine sacks and Michael Ojemudia has three interceptions.
The Trojans are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 bowl games and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 non-conference games. The Hawkeyes are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games on grass and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games in December. The over is 5-0 in Trojans last 5 games overall. The under is 8-2-1 in Hawkeyes last 11 games overall.
The USC Trojans finished the season on an offensive tear, have a red hot quarterback and have to like the fact they don't have to go far from home for this one. The Iowa Hawkeyes are one of those teams that plays their style every week, doesn't change and finds a way to grind out wins with a ground game and defense. The USC Trojans are 8-0 SU this season when scoring at least 30 points, and you have to like their chances if that continues, as I'm not sure Iowa has the horses to match the explosiveness of these Trojans. The Iowa Hawkeyes and their physicality could provide USC with some issues, but I like how USC finished the season and think that offense picks up where it left off.
