The Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors and BYU Cougars meet Tuesday in the college football Hawaii Bowl at Aloha Stadium.
The Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors have a chance to win double-digit games for the first time since 2010. The Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors have won their last three home games. Cole McDonald is completing 64.1 percent of his passes for 3,642 yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. McDonald has four touchdown passes in four of his last 12 games. Cedric Byrd II and Jared Smart have combined for 2,055 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns while JoJo Ward has 58 receptions. The Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors ground game is averaging 143.3 yards per contest, and Miles Reed leads the way with 891 yards and eight touchdowns. Defensively, Hawai'i is allowing 31.7 points and 426.1 yards per game. Solomon Matautia leads the Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors with 75 tackles, KK Padello has three sacks and Ikem Okeke has three interceptions.
The BYU Cougars enter this bowl contest with wins in five of their last six games. The BYU Cougars have split their last six road games. Zach Wilson is completing 62.7 percent of his passes for 2,108 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Wilson and Baylor Romney have combined for 18 touchdown passes and nine interceptions. Matt Bushman and Micah Simon have combined for 1,157 receiving yards and six touchdowns while Talon Shumway has 39 receptions. The BYU Cougars ground game is averaging 153 yards per contest, and Sione Finau leads the way with 359 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, BYU is allowing 24.4 points and 385.1 yards per game. Kavika Fonua leads the BYU Cougars with 78 tackles, Lorenzo Fauatea has two sacks and Payton Wilgar has three interceptions.
The Rainbow Warriors are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 bowl games, 7-19 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 20-42-2 ATS in their last 64 games overall. The Cougars are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 bowl games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The over is 15-6 in Rainbow Warriors last 21 non-conference games. The under is 6-2-1 in Cougars last 9 games as a favorite. The Rainbow Warriors are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 meetings. The favorite is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings. The over is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings.
The BYU Cougars are playing their best football of the season heading into this bowl game, but they could still be a hit or miss at times defensively and haven't exactly been as dominant in the trenches as we're used to seeing from this program. The Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors have to be thrilled to host a bowl game just hours before Christmas, and they've been a really profitable team for us over the years in the home spot. Hawaii is a very explosive offensive team and if the opponent isn't ready to match that energy, they'll get run out of the building. I favor Hawaii in this contest because of the home field and an offense that's put up crooked numbers consistently.
