The Buffalo Bulls and the Charlotte 49ers meet in the college football Bahamas Bowl from Thomas Robinson Stadium.
Buffalo finished off the season at 7-5 overall. The Bulls are 5-1 over their last six games, falling to Kent State but taking out Akron, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Toledo and Bowling Green in that time.
In the win over the Falcons, Buffalo’s Kyle Vantrease posted 131 yards passing, and Jaret Patterson had a whopping 298 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. Kevin Marks added 107 more rush yards with another TD.
Over on the Charlotte side, they’re 7-5 as well this year. The 49ers have a five-game winning streak going right now versus North Texas, Middle Tennessee, UTEP, Marshall and Old Dominion.
In the win over the Monarchs, Charlotte’s Chris Reynolds put up 166 yards with two TDs and an INT, and Victor Tucker caught three balls for 118 yards and a score. Ben Lemay led the rush there on 105 yards and two TDs.
The Bulls are 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall and 5-1 ATS in their last six as a favorite. Buffalo is 4-1 ATS in the last five after an ATS win and 4-1 ATS in the last five Friday games.
Meanwhile, the 49ers are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 6-2 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up win. Charlotte is 2-5 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 5-13 ATS in their last 18 non-conference games.
Buffalo hasn’t had too many offensive difficulties over the last five games, posting at least 27 in every outing and hitting 43 or more in four of those. The Bulls’ strategy these days is run, run and run some more, and honestly it’s been pretty effective with a talented RB like Patterson back there.
As for Charlotte, they’ve been more multidimensional on offense during their five-game win streak, but some of the results have been mixed and they’ve had a couple of close calls in there as well.
This looks like a pretty fun matchup and it’ll be interesting to see what each team can do here. If Buffalo can establish the run early I like the Bulls on the cover in this one.
