The Louisiana Cajuns and the Appalachian State Mountaineers meet in college football action from Kidd Brewer Stadium on Saturday for the Sun Belt Championship.
Louisiana comes in here at 10-2 so far. The Cajuns have a six-game winning streak going, taking out Arkansas State, Texas State, Coastal Carolina, South Alabama, Troy and LA-Monroe in that time.
In the win over the Warhawks, Cajuns QB Levi Lewis threw for 270 yards and three scores, while Raymond Calais added 107 yards and a TD. Ja’Marcus Bradley led the receivers there with 127 yards and a score on four grabs.
Over on the App State side, they’re 11-1 this year. since falling to Georgia Southern, App State has taken out South Carolina, Georgia State, Texas State and Troy.
In the win over Troy, App State QB Zac Thomas put up 326 yards and four scores. Darrynton Evans added 82 rush yards and two TDs, and Thomas Hennigan had 140 yards on 11 grabs.
The Cajuns are 5-0 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and 6-1 ATS in their last seven road games. Louisiana is 4-1 ATS in their last five as an underdog and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 overall.
Meanwhile, App State is 4-1 ATS in the last five in December and 4-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record. The Mountaineers are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 after an ATS win and the under is 6-2 in their last eight overall.
Louisiana was outscored 16-10 in the second half by a “meh” Warhawks team in their last outing, but to the Cajuns’ credit they held on for the victory. That leads us to this pretty epic rematch, as the last meeting between Louisiana and App State was a 17-7 Mountaineers win back on October 9.
As for App State, they’ve shown they’re vulnerable with the GA Southern loss, but they’ve done well points-wise in their last three with at least 35 scored in each game. I like App State to assert themselves and eke out a cover here, but it should be a close one.
