The Miami-Ohio RedHawks and the Ball State Cardinals meet in week 14 college football MAC-tion from the Scheumann Stadium on Friday as they close out the CFB regular season.
The Miami-Ohio RedHawks will look to keep their momentum going after a narrow 20-17 win over Akron in their last outing. Brett Gabbert had thrown for 117 yards and 2 interceptions on 10 of 21 passing while Jaylon Bester led the RedHawks with 128 rushing yards and a touchdown and Tyre Shelton had 87 rushing yards and a touchdown. Jack Sorenson led Miami-Ohio’s receiving group with 3 grabs for 46 yards in the win. Defensively, Sterling Weatherford led the RedHawks with 10 total tackles including 7 solo tackles while Ivan Pace Jr. had a whopping 6 sacks in the win as Miami-Ohio combined for 12 sacks as a team in the win. As a team, Miami-Ohio is averaging 313.8 yards of total offense and 24.4 points per game while allowing 365 yards of total defense and 27.7 points per game against this season.
The Ball State Cardinals will look to finish the year on a high note after a 4th straight loss with a 41-38 road loss to Kent State last time out. Drew Plitt threw for 208 yards and a touchdown on 16 of 24 passing while Caleb Huntley had 192 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns and Walter Fletcher had 90 rushing yards and a rushing score of his own. Fletcher also had 4 receptions for 74 yards and a receiving TD while Yo’Heinz Tyler added 4 grabs for 61 receiving yards. Defensively, Bryce Cosby led the Cardinals with 11 total tackles while Amechi Uzodinma II had 9 solo tackles. As a team, Miami-Ohio is averaging 453.1 yards of total offense and 34.3 points per game while allowing 441.4 yards of total defense and 31.8 points per game against this season.
Miami-Ohio is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 13-3 ATS in their last 16 conference games while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games following a win. Ball State is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 11-23 ATS in their last 34 conference games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Miami-Ohio is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams and 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at Ball State.
Neither team has all that much to play for, as Miami-Ohio has their spot in the MAC title game booked while Ball State is out of bowl contention. However, I think the RedHawks will want to carry some sort of momentum into the MAC championship game, and I think a loss here would kind of derail that confidence. I’ll take the points with Miami-Ohio in a game I think the RedHawks win outright.
