The Line: UAB Blazers -4.5 -- Over/Under: 43.5
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the UAB Blazers meet in a week 13 C-USA college football matchup from Legion Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs come into this one looking to bounce back after a 31-10 loss to Marshall on the road in their last outing. J’Mar Smith has thrown for 2,483 yards, 14 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on 65.1% passing while Justin Henderson leads the Bulldogs on the ground with 799 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. Israel Tucker, the previously mentioned Smith, Jaqwis Dancy and DeAndre Marcus each have 200+ rushing yards for Louisiana Tech this season. Malik Stanley leads the Bulldogs in receiving with 532 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns while Adrian Hardy has 39 grabs for 482 yards and Cee Jay Powell has a team-high 40 catches for 457 yards. Griffin Hebert also has 386 receiving yards for the Bulldogs this season. Defensively, L’Jarius Sneed leads Louisiana Tech with 60 total tackles while Amik Robertson has 5 interceptions and Milton Williams has a team-high 4 sacks. As a team, Louisiana Tech is averaging 457.3 yards of total offense and 35.3 points per game while allowing 396 yards of total defense and 23.7 points per game against this season.
The UAB Blazers will look to build on a 37-10 win over UTEP in their last outing. Tyler Johnston III has thrown for 1,899 yards, 15 touchdowns and 13 interceptions on 59.1% passing while Jermaine Brown Jr. leads the Blazers in rushing with 360 rushing yards and Spencer Brown is right behind with 330 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. Lucious Stanley has 282 rushing yards and 5 TDs while Austin Watkins leads UAB in receiving with 39 grabs for 808 yards and 5 touchdowns. Kendall Parham has 544 receiving yards and 6 TDs and Myron Mitchell has 453 receiving yards and 4 TDs. Defensively, Kristopher Moll has 74 total tackles with a team-high 46 solo tackles as well as 6 sacks while Jordan Smith has a team-high 8 sacks and Garrett Marino has 5.5 sacks this season. As a team, UAB is averaging 370.2 yards of total offense and 25.5 points per game while allowing 269.3 yards of total defense and 18.7 points per game against this season.
Louisiana Tech is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games against a team with a winning home record while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record. UAB is 26-12-1 ATS in their last 39 games overall and an impressive 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 home games while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 conference games.
I get UAB being favored at home, but Johnston III has missed the last couple of games with a knee injury, and going from injured to jumping right back into game form against the Bulldogs are two completely different sides of the spectrum. Louisiana Tech has been okay on the road while UAB has been a tough nut to crack at home, I just think that Louisiana Tech needs this game just as bad as UAB does, and with their QB situation much more clear, I have to side with the Bulldogs and the points in this one.
