The Old Dominion Monarchs and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders meet in a week 13 C-USA college football matchup from Floyd Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Old Dominion Monarchs will be out to snap a nine-game losing streak after a 24-23 loss to UTSA in their last outing. Stone Smartt leads ODU with 833 passing yards, a touchdown and 5 interceptions while Lala Davis leads the Monarchs in rushing with 312 rushing yards and 3 TDs and Kesean Strong also has 293 rushing yards and 3 TDs. Eric Kumah, Strong, Nigel Fitzgerald, Aaron Moore and Steven Williams all have 100+ receiving yards for the Monarchs this season. Defensively, Lawrence Garner leads Old Dominion with 94 total tackles including a team-high 58 solo tackles while three different Monarchs all have 3.5 sacks this season. As a team, Old Dominion is averaging 251.8 yards of total offense and 15.6 points per game while allowing 366 yards of total defense and 28.2 points per game against this season.
The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will look to bounce back after a 31-28 loss to Rice in their last outing. Asher O’Hara has thrown for 2,130 yards, 15 touchdowns and 7 interceptions on 62.8% passing while also leading the Blue Raiders in rushing with 822 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns. Jarrin Pierce leads Middle Tennessee’s receiving group with 453 receiving yards while Ty Lee has 435 receiving yards and Jimmy Marshall has 390 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. Defensively, Jovante Moffatt leads Middle Tennessee with 81 total tackles including 59 solo tackles while Tyshun Render has a team-high 3 sacks. As a team, Middle Tennessee is averaging 407.4 yards of total offense and 25.2 points per game while allowing 461.2 yards of total defense and 31.1 points per game against this season.
Old Dominion is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record. Middle Tennessee is 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games following a loss and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games in November while the over is a strong 5-1 in their last 6 home games.
The Blue Raiders have nothing but pride to play for at this point, and I kind of wonder if the Blue Raiders will really be up for this game after having their bowl aspirations snuffed last time out. On the other hand, say what you want about Old Dominion, but the Monarchs fight on the road and have performed well against Virginia Tech and Virginia as well as having success on the road in conference play. I just think this is a case of way too many points, so I’ll take them with Old Dominion in this one.
