The South Alabama Jaguars and the Georgia State Panthers meet in week 13 college football action from Turner Field on Saturday.
South Alabama enters here at just 1-9 on the year. Over their last six games the Jaguars have fallen to LA-Monroe, GA Southern, Troy, App State, Texas State and Louisiana.
In the loss to the Cajuns, South Alabama QB Desmond Trotter put up 116 yards passing, and Tra Minter added 137 rush yards and a score. Carlos Davis also had a nice rushing day with 122 yards and a TD.
Over on the Georgia State side, they’re 6-4 so far. The Panthers are 4-2 in their last six games, beating Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Army and Troy while falling to LA-Monroe and Appalachian State.
In the loss to the Mountaineers, Georgia State QB Dan Ellington put up 88 yards with a TD and two picks. Destin Coates (97 yards; one TD) and Tra Barnett (90 yards) led the rush and Cadarruis Thompson had one 34-yard catch there.
The Jaguars are 4-0 ATS in their last four games in November and 7-1 ATS in their last eight conference games. South Alabama is 5-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss and 5-1 ATS in their last six overall.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five home games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five on turf. Georgia State is 0-6-1 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss and 0-7-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record.
Not much has gone right for the Jaguars this year, and most of it is focused on their inability to score. During a six-game stretch this year, South Alabama couldn’t get past 17 points, but to their credit they’ve put up 55 points combined over their last two games.
As for the Panthers, they’ve been pretty reliable at putting up points, but they’ve also been coughing up some big totals as well. Still, I don’t think the Jaguars will pose much of a threat here so I’m going Panthers.
