The Line: Marshall Thundering Herd -3 -- Over/Under: 57.5
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the Marshall Thundering Herd meet in week 12 C-USA college football action from Joan C. Edwards Stadium on Friday night.
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs come into this game looking to build on their current eight game winning streak after a 52-17 win over North Texas in their last outing. J’Mar Smith has thrown for 2,483 yards, 14 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on 65.1% passing while Justin Henderson leads the Bulldogs in rushing with 712 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Adrian Hardy leads the Bulldogs in receiving with 482 receiving yards while Cee Jay Powell has 40 grabs for 457 yards and Malik Stanley has 450 receiving yards as well. Griffin Hebert has 385 receiving yards and 4 TDs while Isaiah Graham and Smoke Harris each have 200+ receiving yards this season. Defensively, Collin Scott leads the Bulldogs with 54 total tackles while Amik Robertson had a team-high 5 interceptions and Milton Williams and Ka’Derrion Mason each have a team-high 3 sacks this year. As a team, Louisiana Tech is averaging 479.1 yards of total offense and 38.1 points per game while allowing 395.3 yards of total defense and 22.9 points per game against this season.
The Marshall Thundering Herd will look to add to their current four game winning streak after a 20-7 win over Rice last time out. Isaiah Green has thrown for 1,876 yards, 12 touchdowns and 6 picks on 60.4% passing while Brenden Knox leads the Herd with 933 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns and Sheldon Evans has 306 rushing yards this season. Armani Levias has a team-high 442 receiving yards on 39 catches with 3 touchdowns, while Broc Thompson has 314 receiving yards and Xavier Gaines and Willie Johnson have 276 and 261 receiving yards respectively. Defensively, Omari Cobb leads the Herd with 79 total tackles while Tavante Beckett is right behind with 78 total tackles. Darius Hodge leads the Herd with 7 sacks while Marquis Couch and Tyler Brown each have 4.5 sacks this season. As a team, Marshall is averaging 426 yards of total offense and 26.2 points per game while allowing 371.1 yards of total defense and 24 points per game against this season.
Louisiana Tech is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Marshall is 2-12 ATS in their last 14 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the 0ver is 6-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record.
Both teams need this win as Marshall can pull into a tie with FAU and actually pull ahead on a tiebreaker if they can keep pace with the Owls thanks to a head-to-head victory over FAU just a couple of weeks ago, while Louisiana Tech can almost lock up their spot in the conference championship game with a win here. The problem I have is that I can’t get myself to lay points with a Marshall team that’s gone 0-5 ATS at home this season. I think that Marshall’s balance has been impressive, but Louisiana Tech has been on fire offensively during this winning streak, putting up at least 35 points in 6 of their last 7 games. I just don’t know if the Herd can keep up with or slow down Louisiana Tech here, so I’ll take the free field goal with the Bulldogs in this one.
