The Line: Toledo Rockets -3 -- Over/Under: 55
The Northern Illinois Huskies and the Toledo Rockets meet in week 12 college football MAC-tion from the Glass Bowl on Wednesday night.
The Northern Illinois Huskies come into this game looking to bounce back from a 48-10 loss to Central Michigan in their last outing. Ross Bowers leads NIU with 1,947 passing yards, 6 touchdowns and 8 interceptions on 57.9% passing while Tre Harbison leads the Huskies with 741 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns. Marcus Childers has thrown for 260 yards and 4 touchdowns while also rushing for 163 yards and 7 TDs of his own. Cole Tucker leads NIU in receiving with 483 receiving yards on 32 catches while Mitchell Brinkman, Daniel Crawford and Spencer Tears each have 300+ receiving yards this season and Tyrice Richie has 282 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns this year. Defensively, Mykelti Williams leads the Huskies with 67 total tackles while Antonio Jones-Davis and Vinny Labus each have 2 sacks this year. As a team, Northern Illinois is averaging 364 yards of total offense and 23.2 points per game while allowing 375.1 yards of total defense and 27.9 points per game against this season.
The Toledo Rockets will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 35-33 win over Kent State in their last outing. Mitchell Guadagni has thrown for 1,099 yards, 8 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 64.8% passing while Bryant Koback leads Toledo’s ground attack with 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns. Shakif Seymour has 560 rushing yards with 4 TDs and the aforementioned Guadagni also had 4 touchdowns with 332 rushing yards while Bryce Mitchell leads Toledo’s receiving group with 431 receiving yards. Danzel McKinley-Lewis has 411 receiving yards while Desmond Phillips has a team-high 28 catches for 312 yards this season. Defensively, Jordan Fisher leads Toledo with 68 total tackles while Saeed Holt leads the Rockets with 3.5 sacks and Kahlil Robinson has a team-high 3 interceptions this season. As a team, Toledo is averaging 450.2 yards of total offense and 29.1 points per game while allowing 467.9 yards of total defense and 28.6 points per game against this season.
Northern Illinois is 34-16-2 ATS in their last 52 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a game where they failed to cover the spread while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Toledo is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games following a win while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 conference games. The road team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
The points are tempting with Northern Illinois, as Toledo QB Mitchell Guadagni is doubtful for this game, and Bryant Koback is questionable with a leg injury. However, Toledo always seems to have the next man up mentality, as there are plenty of talented options on this Rockets’ roster that can step in. Toledo needs a win here to try to keep pace in the MAC West division chase, and while Northern Illinois may need the win too, Toledo is 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS at home this season and I think the Rockets can win this one by a field goal at least.
