The Charlotte 49ers and UTEP Miners meet Saturday in college football action at the Sun Bowl.
The Charlotte 49ers look for a big road win to get back to a .500 record. The Charlotte 49ers have lost all their four road games this season. Chris Reynolds is completing 62.3 percent of his passes for 1,680 yards, 16 touchdowns and six interceptions. Reynolds has five touchdown passes in his last three games. Victor Tucker and Cameron Dollar have combined for 944 receiving yards and six touchdowns while Benny LeMay has 19 receptions. The Charlotte 49ers ground game is averaging 211 yards per contest, and Benny LeMay leads the way with 822 yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, Charlotte is allowing 37.1 points and 410.6 yards per game. Marquavis Gibbs leads the Charlotte 49ers with 72 tackles, Alex Highsmith has 8.5 sacks and Jeff Gemmell has one interception.
The UTEP Miners need a victory here to snap a seven-game losing streak. The UTEP Miners have lost their last three home games. Kai Locksley is completing 52.3 percent of his passes for 656 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Locksley and Brandon Jones have combined for four touchdown passes and five interceptions. Tre'Shon Wolf and Justin Garrett have combined for 519 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Jacob Cowing has nine receptions. The UTEP Miners ground game is averaging 137 yards per contest, and Treyvon Hughes leads the way with 519 yards and 10 touchdowns. Defensively, UTEP is allowing 36.5 points and 428.3 yards per game. Michael Lewis leads the UTEP Miners with 65 tackles, Praise Amaewhule has three sacks and Ykili Ross has two interceptions.
The 49ers are 6-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games on turf. The Miners are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 home games, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 conference games and 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The over is 7-2 in 49ers last 9 games overall. The over is 5-1 in Miners last 6 home games.
The Charlotte 49ers haven't been a double-digit road favorite since moving to the FBS ranks. The UTEP Miners are 1-4 ATS in their last five games as a double-digit home underdog. Charlotte has bounced back from four straight losses with two straight wins, and three of their four victories have been won by double digits. UTEP has had trouble keeping teams out of the end zone, allowing 30-plus points in seven of their eight games. With that said, Charlotte hasn't done enough this season to deserve laying double-digit chalk, and this is the second to last home game for a UTEP team that has 26 seniors. I'll take the points with the Miners at home.
