Defensively, Akeem Davis-Gaither leads App State with 64 total tackles as well as logging 2.5 sacks while Demetrius Taylor leads the Mountaineers with 5 sacks this season and Shaun Jolly has a team-high 3 interceptions. As a team, Appalachian State is averaging 437.5 yards of total offense and 38.5 points per game while allowing 329.6 yards of total defense and 19.6 points per game against this season.
The South Carolina Gamecocks will look to build on a 24-7 win over Vanderbilt and get back to .500 on the year with a win here. Ryan Hilinski has thrown for 1,752 yards, 10 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 61.2% passing while Tavien Feaster leads South Carolina in rushing with 625 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. Appalachian State is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 road games and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against the SEC. South Carolina is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a win and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against the Sun Belt while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games following a win.
I get South Carolina being favored because they’re at home and are aa decent SEC program, but a win over a struggling Vanderbilt team doesn’t make me forget that this is the same Gamecocks team that got blown out by a bad Tennessee squad after hanging tough against Florida and beating Georgia outright the week prior. Appalachian State has shown before and even this season with their win over North Carolina that they’re not afraid to go on the road and hang and beat the big boys and I think that the Mountaineers want to make a statement and get back into the top-25 and it comes here as I think the Mountaineers upset South Carolina on the road, but I’ll take the points just to be safe.
