The North Texas Mean Green and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs meet in a week 11 C-USA college football matchup from Joe Alliet Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The North Texas Mean Green will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last four game following a 52-26 win over UTEP last time out. Mason Fine has thrown for 2,609 yards, 27 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on 63.1% passing while Tre Siggers leads the Mean Green in rushing with 715 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. DeAndre Torrey and Loren Easly each have 200+ rushing yards for North Texas this year while Jaelon Darden leads UNT with 639 receiving yards on 59 grabs with 11 touchdowns. Michael Lawrence has 41 catches for 500 yards and Jyaire Shorter has 19 grabs for 419 yards and 8 TDs. Jason Pirtle has 14 catches for 184 yards and 5 TDs while Greg White and Deonte Simpson each have 100+ receiving yards this season. Defensively, KD Davis leads the Mean Green with 69 total tackles while LaDarius Hamilton has a team-high 5 sacks and Tyreke Davis and Dion Novil each have 3.5 sacks this season. As a team, North Texas is averaging 462.4 yards of total offense and 35 points per game while allowing 418 yards of total defense and 32.4 points per game against this season.
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will look to build on their current 7-game winning streak after a 42-21 win over UTEP in their last outing to improve to 7-1 on the year. J’Mar Smith leads LA Tech in passing with 2,220 yards, 13 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 66.5% passing while Justin Henderson leads the Bulldogs on the ground with 654 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Cee Jay Powell leads the Bulldogs in receiving with 38 catches for 446 yards while Malik Stanley has 23 catches for 433 yards and 3 touchdowns. Adrian Hardy has 378 receiving yards and Griffin Hebert has 360 receiving yards and 4 TDs. Defensively, Collin Scott has a team-high 49 total tackles while Amik Robertson has a Bulldogs-leading 5 interceptions with a pair of touchdowns and Ka’Derrion Mason has a team-high 3 sacks this season. As a team, Louisiana Tech is averaging 471.2 yards of total offense and 36.4 points per game while allowing 402 yards of total defense and 23.6 points per game against this season.
North Texas is 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games overall and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 road games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 conference games. Louisiana Tech is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win. North Texas is 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
The points with North Texas are kind of tempting as the Mean Green have the offense to hand with teams. The problem is that the defense tends to lack and be the downfall for North Texas. LA Tech has it on both sides of the ball, as they can rack up points in a hurry and stifle you on defense. I’ll lay the points with Louisiana Tech here as all three of their home wins over FBS opposition have been by double figures and I just don’t see North Texas being able to keep up here.
